Info Highway Lessons...

Hello all!

Greetings from Washington D.C., place of the Celebration of the Afro-American Cultures and Arts Forum on the Compuserve Information Service. It has been 1 year and the forum is growing quite nicely! The Weekend 5/5-5/7 has been set aside for Forum members and Sponsor American Vision to come together and Celebrate!

As I am sitting here in my hotel room, I am pondering the importance of such an event as this. It is important because a major online service, Compuserve has allowed the beginning of this great venture to happen on their service. No other complete forum exists on this online service that is totally geared towards Afro-American Culture!

You see in forums you may have an area devoted to Afro American Culture actually a section of a forum, but to have a whole forum allows for more "breathing room" so to speak. With a Forum Section only you would see mutiple topics all discussed in one Section. Imagine an area such as the Salon, being the only section and you would have all of the other Areas combined in this one section.

Imagine Trying to Manange the flow if message on various topics via only on Section. Again, Imagine the File areas all combined into only one File Area. You would have all the files combined into one area and would have to do intensive key word search which could be time consuming.

Additionally imagine having only one Conference Area dedicated to AA Culture. Again, there would be seperation for seperate topics. Two Conferences would not be easy to run at the same time in seperate rooms.

With a forum such as ours you have the a memeber of base of ove 3 miillon users. Many of them will do a key word search on Afro-American via Go Find and will stumble upon the Afro-American Cultures and Arts Forum. Many will learn about a popular magazine that is in print called American Visions that has open up the Online Doors of Afro-American Culture here on Compuserve via this Forum. They have started a service that Net Guide Magazine has written about. A service that is listed in the Compuserve Yellow Pages. A service that you are a part of.

You can see the reason why I was so excited, when I learned abou the opening of this Forum last year and was happy to be a part of the pre-opening preparation last April. We all shared the excitement of when the Forum first displayed in the "What's New" on Compuserve. This April we shared the joy in seeing the Forum wonderfully reviewed in the April Editio of Compuserve Magazine. We've seen wonderful Celebrity Conferences, such as th author of Brother Man here in our Forum as well as having guest Mario and Melvin Van Peebles in live Conference and englighten us on the movie "Panther". We've posted message on the movies "Higher Learning" and "Boyz in the Hood" and had Director John Singleton graciously repond.

So many good things have happened. Aren't you glad to be part of the excitement? If you are reading this "Info Highway Lesson...", via another Cyber-Location (UseNet,BBS Network, etc.), feel free to visit the Forum here on Compuserve and be a part of the excitement!

Hoping your Cyber-Travels are propserous ones!
