Info Highway Lessons...

Hello there!

Goodness! It's been 16 weeks since we first begin the subject topic "Info Highway Lessons..."!

As mentioned in the last lesson about Archie, we will cover a little on the better half, Veronica!

I am just learning myself that Veronica actually stands for something...

V - Very

E - Easy

R - Rodent

O - Oriented

N - Network

I - Index

C - Computerized

A - Archives

Vericona is the Brain child of two computer scientists at the University of Nevada (Reno). You really won't appreciate Veronica until you see the complexity of using Gopher (next lesson, next week). All of this again is just accessing the many databases available on the Information Super Highway.

Veronica provided that Menu based structure that is lacking in other programs. Veronica houses the Database of Gopher Sites available. Veronica Searches actually create Gopher type menus for you with each item found being an actually link (similar to the links in the WWW lesson#10) to the reference it self. Through are considered Code letters or numbers you can even specify directories and types (binary, gif, multmedia, etc.) of files in your search. Veronica does allow for Boolean searches of AND,NOT,OR,etc. Veronica will be found somewhat hidden, in the Second Menu Down on the University of Minnesota Site.

This wraps up another lesson...Hoping your CyberTravels are good ones...
